Former England captain Steven Gerrard is confident the Football Association will get it right when choosing a successor to Roy Hodgson.
Hodgson resigned in the immediate aftermath of England s dismal Euro 2016 exit at the hands of Iceland last month with Sunderland boss Sam Allardyce the early favourite to succeed him having been interviewed for the post on Tuesday.
Gerrard, who retired from international football following the 2014 World Cup and now plays for Los Angeles Galaxy, also thinks the team s experience in France will galvanise them for future tournaments.
Speaking exclusively to Virtual Reality company Laduma, he said: There’s a huge fear in amongst the group at the moment.
The expectations are very, very high. It’s a very pressured situat…
Dele Alli has signed a new contract with Tottenham Hotspur, .
The twenty year old has emerged as one of the brightest prospects in the Premier League with his performances last season earning him the PFA Young Player of the Year award.
He has racked up fifty-two appearances for the North London club in all competitions, scoring eleven goals the last of which came in the 4-0 win over Stoke City earlier this month.
Prior to his switch to White Hart Lane, the midfielder played eighty-eight times for Milton Keynes Dons, helping them to promotion to the Championship as runners up in 2015.
He has been capped for England thirteen times, with four of those appearances coming at this summer’s European Championships while his one and only international goal …
Erbil held off late pressure from Kitchee to ensure a 2-1 win in Hong Kong on Tuesday and book their place in the AFC Cup final.
Following a 1-1 draw in the first leg, two early goals for the visitors at the Mong Kok Stadium eventually proved enough to see Ayob Od Barcham s men into the final, where they will take on Al Qadsia.
Erbil made an ideal start to Tuesday s second leg as they moved two goals up in the opening 10 minutes.
Ali Faez put the 2012 finalists ahead just three minutes in before Amjad Radhi doubled their advantage soon after.
With Barcham s side firmly on course for a meeting with the Kuwaiti champions, the Iraqi club were made to sweat when Gao Wen pulled one back for the hosts.
However, Erbil held on to make the final for only…
Arkadiusz Milik and Sebastian Mila grabbed the goals as Poland won 2-0 in Warsaw to hand Germany s Euro 2016 qualifying campaign a blow.
A lacklustre showing from the world champions, who had laboured to a narrow 2-1 win over Scotland in their Group D opener, allowed Poland to clinch the points, as Joachim Low s men were beaten in competitive action for the first time in 19 outings.
Having failed to threaten with any regularity during Saturday s first half, Germany fell behind to Poland s first effort on target early in the second period when Milik headed home from inside the area.
The Ajax man, on loan from Bundesliga side Bayer Leverkusen, was later withdrawn to a rapturous ovation from the home crowd and, despite some tense moments for the hosts at the Stadion…
Diego Milito has hailed Wesley Sneijder s legacy at Inter Milan but accepts the player must now choose his own path.
Sneijder has been locked in a struggle with the club for several months over a new contract, leaving him to play a bit-part in the 2012/13 campaign as his relationship.
But Milito has stressed the players continue to get on well with the man who inspired the team to an historic treble in 2010.
He told Sky Italia: (Sneijder) helped write the history of this club and the players get on great with him. We have left him free to decide which path he wants to take.
Andrea Stramaccioni has come in for criticism from some quarters over his handling of the Sneijder affair, but Milito has insisted the coach commands the respect of the entire squad.…
Laurent Blanc will launch Paris Saint-Germain s title defence with a tough encounter against the 2011-12 champions Montpellier on Friday.
The new PSG boss faces a tricky-looking trip to the Stade de la Mosson to take on Jean Fernandez s charges in the first game of the new Ligue 1 season.
However, they look set to be without two of their three big-name signings, with Marquinhos and Edinson Cavani struggling for fitness.
Blanc will be hoping to better the 1-1 result achieved there in 2012 when Carlo Ancelotti was in charge.
A strong start is also imperative for the champions as their main competitors Marseille face a decidedly easier contest against the newly promoted Guingamp on Sunday.
Jocelyn Gourvennec has seen his team earn a place back in the top fligh…
Equatorial Guinea will host the 2015 Africa Cup of Nations, the Confederation of African Football (CAF) have confirmed.
Morocco had originally been set to host the tournament, but then asked for it to be delayed due to fears over the spread of the Ebola virus, which has claimed over 5,000 lives across Africa.
CAF rejected that request and subsequently stripped Morocco of the tournament, as well as ejecting their national team from the competition.
Equatorial Guinea co-hosted the 2012 staging of the AFCON with Gabon, but has taken on sole duties this time around.
Talks with CAF chief Issa Hayatou were held on Friday and a decision was quickly made to take the tournament to Malabo, Bata, Mongomo and Ebebiyin.
A CAF statement read: The Head of State …
Liverpool took their lead at the top of the Premier League table to 13 points as they edged out a narrow 1-0 win over Wolverhampton Wanderers to round off 2019. Of course, that only tells a very small part of the story, as VAR played yet another huge role in a game of such importance.
Sadio Mane gave Liverpool the lead in the first half after the ball bounced off of Adam Lallana s shoulder in the build-up to the goal. The goal was checked by VAR, and while it was given, some felt as if Virgil van Dijk also handled the ball before playing the initial pass. Then, Pedro Neto s equaliser was ruled out due to a very marginal offside from Jonny Otto.
Tense affair
Liverpool held on to claim all three points, with the pressure now being back on Leicester City and Manchester Ci…

Arsene Wenger has slammed Birmingham defender Liam Ridgewell for the tackle which left Arsenal winger Theo Walcott nursing a potentially serious knee injury.
Walcott was forced off before half-time in the Gunners 3-1 win over City at the Emirates Stadium on Saturday following a hefty tackle from Ridgewell.
The England international was left in a crumpled heap after the defender crashed into him, winning the ball but also crunching into the back of his legs.
Walcott played on for another 20 minutes before being withdrawn and will undergo a scan on Sunday to determine the extent of the injury.
Wenger has ruled out the possibility of cruciate ligament damage but fears Walcott might have twisted his medial ligaments, which would rule him out of Tuesday s Cha…
